Valantis and Pendle Launch Secondary Market for Hyperliquid Fee Discounts
Valantis Labs and Pendle have launched the first open market for Hyperliquid trading fee discounts as of August 27, 2026, according to Business Insider.

The integration separates fee reduction rights from HYPE staking and prices them as standalone Yield Tokens (YTs).
Capital Lockup vs. Margin Availability
Hyperliquid's discount structure is a steep ladder: 10 HYPE (~$800) buys 5% off trading fees; 500,000 HYPE (~$40M) unlocks 40% off. The arithmetic forces a binary choice between deploying capital as margin or locking it for fee compression. Valantis's figures show roughly half of the top 20,000 traders stake nothing, absorbing approximately 70% of all fees paid. These actors value liquidity over fee savings — and they constitute the immediate addressable market for stHYPE YT purchases.
Mechanism Breakdown
stHYPE Yield Tokens on Pendle represent the discount rights stripped from the underlying staked position. A trader buys the YT; the original stHYPE holder retains the principal and staking rewards while monetizing the discount entitlement. The market runs to January 28, 2027, with a follow-on market scheduled ahead of expiry. Valantis Prime's smart contracts extend native staking discounts to stHYPE holders, and the capital remains usable as margin on Hyperlend and Morpho, per the announcement.
Systemic Context
The current discount pool represents $40M in annualized savings for participants. Valantis estimates an additional $100M–$300M per year is recoverable if access widens. Before this market, only bilateral deals and direct stakes supplied the discount tier — Hyperion DeFi, a Nasdaq-listed entity holding HYPE as treasury, has been among the largest counterparties monetizing discount rights from large trading wallets. The Pendle deployment converts a previously opaque OTC segment into a permissionless order book.
Verdict
The structure is sound. Discount sellers retain yield-bearing collateral; YT buyers gain pure fee exposure without lockup. Counterparty risk reduces to Pendle's maturity mechanics and Valantis Prime's contract integrity. For yield allocators, the risk-to-reward calculation hinges on projected discount savings relative to YT premium, and whether Hyperliquid's fee volume sustains through January 2027. We assess the instrument as a measurable, finite-duration yield play — not a structural yield floor.
