Doppler Finance Expands Institutional DeFi Strategies to cbXRP on Base

According to TradingView, roughly 105.64 million cbXRP tokens sit in circulation as of late July 2026, fully backed by over $113 million in XRP locked in Coinbase custody.

Doppler Finance Expands Institutional DeFi Strategies to cbXRP on Base

Doppler Finance has expanded to Base with that wrapped balance as its first supported asset, opening EVM-compatible lending, borrowing, and collateral strategies to XRP holders who previously had no native route into Ethereum DeFi.

The Wrapping Layer and Its Constraints

cbXRP functions as a travel adapter. XRP cannot natively interact with Ethereum smart contracts; Coinbase issues an ERC-20 version on Base at a 1:1 ratio while locking the underlying XRP in custody. Doppler Finance's protocol now treats this wrapped balance as productive collateral, but the productive layer sits on top of a single custodial issuer. The official contract address is 0xcb585250f852C6c6bf90434AB21A00f02833a4af; counterfeit variants on other networks are documented and remain an active attack vector for liquidity traps.

Doppler Finance was originally built on the XRP Ledger to serve institutional participants. Its Base deployment is the first expansion of that infrastructure into a broader EVM ecosystem. Per the announcement, additional tokenized assets will follow cbXRP in later phases, though no specific asset list is confirmed.

Liquidity Precedent and the Institutional Frame

The first DeFi touchpoint for cbXRP was Moonwell on Base, which accumulated roughly $1.2 million in cbXRP liquidity following the asset's June 5, 2025 launch alongside cbDOGE and an initial issuance near 2.3 million tokens. Doppler Finance positions itself as the next leg of that buildout, targeting institutional-grade use cases rather than incremental retail yield.

Antonio Garcia-Martinez, Head of Growth at Base, framed the integration as structural: once an asset is onchain, it becomes usable as collateral, lendable, and borrowable in ways its native form does not permit. Rox Park, Head of Institutions at Doppler Finance, pointed in the same direction, arguing that the next phase of tokenized finance requires infrastructure that extends beyond any single blockchain.

Risk-to-Reward Verdict

The mechanics are clean; the dependency is not. Every cbXRP position on Doppler Finance inherits Coinbase's custodial risk as a base-layer assumption — reserve mismatches, regulatory action against the issuer, or a depeg event would propagate directly into collateral valuations on Base. Yield compression on the Doppler side is a secondary concern: protocol lending rates will track Base utilization curves rather than XRP-native demand.

Depositors should verify the contract address before allocating, monitor the Coinbase proof-of-reserves feed for any reserve drift, and size positions to absorb a potential cbXRP depeg without forced liquidation. The integration is a real liquidity channel. It is also a single point of failure dressed in institutional clothing.
