Avalon Labs Launches Market-Neutral Yield Pool Targeting 15% APY

The pool targets approximately 15% APY by capturing funding-rate differentials and cross-exchange price gaps across Hyperliquid, Binance, and Bybit, with the stated goal of reducing directional exposure to the underlying asset.

The mechanism

The pool runs a cash-and-carry arbitrage framework. Funding payments exchanged between long and short perpetual futures traders provide the primary yield vector; price discrepancies between centralized and decentralized venues provide a secondary one. Offsetting positions are opened simultaneously so that net delta on each asset sits near zero. In theory, the strategy collects the spread regardless of which direction the market moves. Avalon Labs, backed by YZi Labs and Framework Ventures, frames this as an alternative to volatile lending or liquidity-mining yields, anchored to its broader Bitcoin-focused product suite that includes BTC-backed lending and the USDa stablecoin. Separately, Kraken has listed AVL, the protocol's governance token, with a total supply of 1 billion; staking AVL yields sAVL with voting power and fee rebates.

Risk vectors

Three failure modes sit inside this structure.

First, funding rates can reverse. Perpetual funding is a mean-reverting series; when too many participants crowd the same side, the rate flips sign. A 15% APY assumption built on a sustained positive-funding environment collapses the moment the cycle turns.

Second, execution and counterparty exposure are non-trivial. The strategy depends on simultaneous fills across three venues with different margin rules, withdrawal policies, and oracle inputs. Latency, venue-specific margin events, or frozen withdrawals can leave the book one-sided. Once directional, a "market-neutral" label offers no protection.

Third, smart-contract and operational risk at the pool layer. The available material does not reference an audit. Without code review and historical NAV data from prior strategies, depositors are underwriting both the venue stack and the operator's key-management discipline.

Verdict

A 15% market-neutral target is achievable in regimes with sustained positive funding and tight cross-exchange spreads. It is not durable across regimes, and the APY is explicitly non-guaranteed. Capital deployed here earns yield only when the funding-rate cycle cooperates and the venue stack stays liquid. We rate the risk-to-reward as conditional: acceptable for a small, diversified slice of a yield book, provided the operator publishes audited contracts and post-trade NAV. Without those disclosures, the pool is a leveraged bet on funding persistence rather than a structural yield product.
